DEATH OF GEORGE NASON
George Nason, 71, a widely known farmer living southeast of Westfield, in Sioux township since the eighties, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 6, 1941. He had suffered from heart trouble for a long time but was up and around until three days before his death so the news came as a shock to his friends.
Mr. Nason was born in Oxfordshire, England, in 1870. His father, Thomas Nason came to America in 1873, leaving his wife and five children in England while he sought a home in the United States. Thomas Nason, a dyer by trade, followed his occupation for some months in Massachusetts and then joined a group of persons in search of homestead lands in the west.
He bought a section of land in Union county, S. D., (then Dakota Territory) built a long cabin and sent for his wife and children in England. In 1880 Mr. Nason sold his Dakota land and moved across the Big Sioux River into Plymouth county.
George Nason lived among pioneer surroundings, attended rural school and then engaged in farming on his own account. He was of a genial nature and enjoyed the popularity shared by his brothers and sisters in a large circle of acquaintances. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, who before her marriage was Miss Mary Dolan, of Galena Ill.; six brothers and a sister; Albert, John, Harry and Annie Nason of Sioux township; Ed Nason of Hannock township; Will Nason, of Sioux Falls, and Joseph Nason of Stevens, S. D.
The funeral services were held in St. Catherine’s Catholic church at Westfield last Thursday morning, Rev. Fr. Chas. Ernest officiating. Interment was in Logan Park cemetery, Sioux City.
