DEATH CLAIMS AN EARLY DAY RERSIDENT OF UNION COUNTY

Orson M. Thayer Had Lived In Vicinity Of Richland Many Years

Orson Thayer who farmed in the vicinity of Richland, Union county, S. D., for many years, died last Friday, October 8, 1943, at 10 a. m., at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charley Johnson, near Akron, at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 5 days.

Orson Monroe Thayer was born at Bloomfield, Clinton county, Iowa, September 31, 1861. On December 13, 1889, he was united in marriage with Rose Mabel Rolfe, and to this union fifteen children were born. Three daughters preceded him in death. For a number of years the family lived on a farm near Richland, Union county, South Dakota.

He is survived by his widow, Rose Thayer, of Elk Point, S. D., and six daughters and six sons: Mrs. Charley Johnson, of Akron, Iowa; Mrs. Arthur Wilkie, of Mobridge, S. D.; Mrs. Mary Tellinghuisen, of Sioux City; Mrs. Archie Wilson and Mrs. Lyle Wilson, of Williams, Minn.; Mrs. Clifford Groon, of Akron, Ia.; Errol Thayer of Bruce, S. D.; Austin Thayer of Redondo Beach, Calif.; Leonard Thayer, of Elk Point, S. D.; Theron Thayer, of Sioux City; Milon Thayer of Long Beach, Calif.; Frank Thayer of Westfield, Iowa; also by 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Christian church in Akron Rev. C. E. Bolinder, pastor of the Big Springs Baptist church, officiating. Hymns were sung by the Big Springs quartet. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Acting as pallbearers were neighbors of the deceased: Earl Bihlmeyer, WM. Bihlmeyer, James Swoyer, Lowell Bennett, Carl Blanchard and WM. Meeves.
