Obituary of Nikolaus Ehleringer:Dell Rapids, S. Dak. - Nikolaus Ehlringer [sic] died on 9 December at Dell Rapids, S. Dak., in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nick Schmidt. He was born 88 years ago in Angelsberg, Grand-Duchy of Luxemburg. He immigrated with his family to America in the year 1836 [sic: 1863 in other sources] and he settled near St. Donatus [Iowa]. After 13 years, he moved to Humboldt County, Iowa, and farmed in the vacinity of St. Joseph for 26 years. Later, he lived with the family of his daughter, Mrs. Nick Schmidt, and also came with them to Dell Rapids, S. Dak., where he passed the last four years, until he died, well-prepared with the holy last sacraments. Five daughters mourn around him: Mrs. Nick Schmidt of Dell Rapids, S. Dak.; Mrs. August Berte of St. Joseph, Ia.; Mrs. Hn. Zeimet of St. Joseph, Ia.; Mrs. Reisdorfer of Bellevue, Ia.; and Mrs. Nick Etringer of Springbrook, Ia. His son D. Ehlringer [sic], who lives in Washington, could not be present. Following a low mass in Dell Rapids, S. Dak., his remains were brought to St. Joseph, Ia., where Reverend Father Ruemmele held the requiem. The remains were escorted to the graveyard, where he was buried next to his wife, whose death came ten years ago. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers: Karl, Mathias and Johann Berte, Mathias and Peter Zeimet and Peter Reisdorfer. Out-of-town relatives from Alton, Remsen and LeMars were present, as well as Anton Arrent [sic] from Minnesota. He is survived by six children, 36 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren, as well as his aged sister, Mrs. Arnz [sic] of Remsen. May the beloved deceased rest in peace! Our sympathy! - H.B.
