OBITUARY - EMMA ARENSFuneral services were held Wednesday morning, December 22, 1948 at the St. Wilfrid's Catholic Church in Woonsocket for Miss Emma Arens who passed away at Memorial Hospital at Wessington Springs after a short illness of two weeks. Rev. Father Stephens officiated.
Emma Arens was born at Remsen, Iowa, January 7, 1885 and passed away December 19, 1948.
She leaves to mourn her death her mother, Mrs. Frances Arens (Goergen), two sisters, Mrs. Joe E. Steichen (Clara Arens) and Mrs. Bernard Olson (Dorothea Arens), both of Woonsocket, three brothers, Joe and Anton of Woonsocket, and John Arens, of Morris, Minn., her nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Her father, Chas. Arens and two sisters, Mrs. Mathias Leuck (Catherine Arens) and Mrs. John G. Steichen (Augusta Arens) preceded her in death.
She was a well known and long time resident of this community. She was a kind and loving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Burial was made at the St. Wilfrid's cemetery. Pallbearers were Neil Cahill, Nick Olinger, Adolph Schmidt, Torkel Nettland, Carl Berg and Nickolas Steichen.
Those attending the funeral from out-of-town were: John Arens [her brother from Morris, MN], Lowell and Irene Leuck [her sister, Catherine's children from Morris, MN], Mr. and Mrs. [Luella Steichen, her sister Clara's daughter] Gordon Jamison, Pierre; Mrs. Eugene Anderson [Marcella Olson, her sister Dorothea's daughter], Canton; Mr. and Mrs. [Viola Arens, her brother Anton's daughter] Lloyd Nickels, Plankinton; Mrs. Helen Arens [Helen Lee, wife of deceased Kenneth Arens], Letcher; Mr. and Mrs. [Bessie Friested] John Arens, Miller; and Charles Smith and daughters, Leona, Mary, and Mrs. George Gross [Cecelia Smith], of Kimball.

We wish to express our thanks and appreciation to Father Stephens, all our relatives and friends for Mass offerings, beautiful floral offerings, and kindness shown us during our recent bereavement, also the choir for the music rendered during the mass.
