Anton Arens of Dundee is Called Very Suddenly
(Heron Lake News)

People of the Heron Lake and Dundee community, as well as this entire section of the state, were saddened Monday by the news that Anton Arens, prominent Dundee business man, had died very suddenly.
Apparently in the best of health during the forenoon, Mr. Arens ate a hearty dinner and attended to h's [his] business duties as usual. About 2:30 in the afternoon he became ill, suffering a paralytic stroke almost immediately which resulted in his death only a half hour later.
Mr. Arens was born in Luxembourg November 13, 1856, the son of John and Elizabeth [Ehleringer] Arens, and at time of his death was 71 years, nine months and seven days old.

In 1862 he came to America with his parents, he being one of a family of nine children. They settled at St. Donatus, near Dubuque, Iowa. On March 9, 1886, Mr. Arens was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Schroeder at Holy Cross, Iowa, the same year moved to Remsen, Iowa, where he was engaged in the grain business.
In 1897 the family moved to Thurston, Neb., and in 1900 came to Currie, Minn., where Mr. Arens continued to follow the grain business. In 1905 the family moved to Dundee [MN], where Mr. Arens engaged in the hardware business which he followed to the time of his death. For several years past his son, John J. Arens, has been associated with him in the business.

Mr. Arens leaves his widow, [Margaret Schroeder] two sons, John J. of Dundee and Anton P. of St. Paul, and four daughters, Mrs. F. L. Haberman [Agnes] of Heron Lake, Mrs. L. W. Hedrick [Mayme] of Kimbrae, Mrs. A. H. Bodelson [Antoinette] of Fulda and Miss Elizbeth Arens of Dundee. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. John Duster [Antoinette], Mrs. Nicholas Kass [Susan], Mrs. J. P. Mersch [Marguerite], all of Remsen, Iowa and Mrs. Mary Lehnertz of Muenster, Texas, and one brother, Frank Arens of Lake Park, Iowa. There are also 12 grandchildren.

Mr. Arens has always been a devout Catholic and funeral services were conducted at the Catholic church in Dundee this morning at 9:30. Solemn requiem mass was sung, and three priests assisted in the services - Fr. Kearney, Fr. Gregoire and Fr. Tibesar. Interment was in the St. Mary's cemetery at Dundee. A large number of friends of the deceased attended the services to pay their last respects to one who has been a friend to all and whose sudden death was a great shock to the community.
The News joins the many friends of the Arens family in extending sympathy in their sad bereavement.
