Death of John Fissel
John Fissel died at his residence on Howard Street early last Saturday morning after an illness lasting some time of dropsy. For the past few days, the end has been expected as his great age was against chances of recovery.
The deceased was a native of Germany, having been born in Herse, Darmstadt on November 10, 1831. He was married in his native land to Gertrude Storr, who survives him, on November 11, 1850, and the worthy couple celebrated their golden wedding so short a time ago as last November. On coming to the United States, they settled in Wisconsin where they lived for ten years. They lived at Allamakee County for five years. In February 1871, they came to Plymouth County settling in Hungerford township. Eleven years ago, they came to Le Mars to pass the evening of their days in peace and comfort. Three sons and a daughter survive him with the widow. The sons are Chris Fissel of the firm of Beely & Fissel; Peter Fissel of Emory. S. D. and Will Fissel who lives with his parents. Mrs. Ros Winter, the daughter lives at Alexander, S. D.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Lutheran church on Eagle and Seventh streets. Mr. Fissel was one of the old settlers of the county and enjoyed a large acquaintance and was respected by all. His widow and family have the condolences of the community in their sorrow
