AKRON, Iowa – James B. Johnston, 50, of rural Akron died Tuesday at his residence.Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Westfield Congregational Church in Westfield, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

James B. Johnston, 50, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2000, in his home in rural Akron.Services were held Saturday, January 15, 2000 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Westfield, Iowa, with Rev. Steve Jewett officiating. Sheryl Banks was pianist with Shirley Banks as soloist. Musical selections included “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagles Wings.” Pallbearers were Jerry, Tom, Dick and Bill Leaverton, Dave West and Ron Brinkerhoff.
Interment will be at a later date.
Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Johnston was born December 14, 1949 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Ralph and Maude (Howard) Johnston.
He attended Franklin Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Junior High and graduated from Central High School, all in Sioux City, Iowa. He later entered the United States Armed Forces and served in Vietnam.
He married Susan Rosburg, August 2, 1969 in Sioux City. He was employed several years at Load King in Elk Point, South Dakota, Wilson Trailor, Smithco, and American Equipment.
Mr. Johnston lived in Sioux City until 1979 when he moved to the rural Akron area.
Among his hobbies and interests were woodworking and art.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Vanessa of Ashford, Connecticut, Larissa of Forest Hills, New York, Samantha and Tabitha of Akron; a son, Nate of Akron; his father and mother-in-law Lyle and Lorine Rosburg of Sioux City; and several other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
