Obituary
Geneva DeVos, 79, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Floyd Valley Heathcare in Le Mars. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Chris Meier will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Friday.
Geneva Emma DeVos was born on November 5, 1941 on a farm near Brunsville, Iowa to Fred and Emma (Kleihauer) Harms. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars. She attended country school at Grant #8 through 5th grade. She then moved with her family to Le Mars in 1952 after surviving polio. She attended Le Mars Community Schools, graduating from high school in 1960.
On July 28, 1961, Geneva and Marvin DeVos were united in marriage at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars. She went to work at I.P.S for 8 years until the couple adopted their daughter, Terri. Geneva stayed at home and raised their three children until they were all in school. She then worked at Bomgaars for 13 years. Marv and Geneva bought a cabin at Lake Shetek where they spent their weekends. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars since 1961.
Geneva will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Terri DeVos of Sioux City, Iowa, her sons, Steve (Brigett) DeVos of Polk City, Iowa and Dan (Victoria) DeVos of Westfield, Iowa; her grandchildren, Tyler DeVos, Emelia DeVos and Oakley DeVos; her brother, Denny (Patti) Harms, of Le Mars; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Harms of Le Mars, Iowa, Mert DeVos of Ventura, Iowa, Nupe Jeltema of Orange City, Iowa and Nel DeGooyer of Maurice, Iowa, Jane DenOuden of Le Mars, Iowa; brother-in-law, Randy Jelken of Le Mars, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin on March 8, 2015, her, son Scott DeVos, her brother, Lanny Harms, her sister, Jeanie Jelken, sister-in-law, Dolly DeVos, brothers-in-law, Jack and Herm DeVos, Casey DenOuden, Jim Jeltema and Don DeGooyer.
