GERHARD JOHNSON, 82, OF CHATSWORTH DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS
Gerhard E. Johnson, 82, of Chatsworth died Saturday in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Lutheran church Chatsworth with the Rev. Harris Hastager, officiating. Burial will be at Hillside cemetery, Merrill, with the Lewison Funeral Hom of Akron, in charge. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Johnson was born March 20, 1882, in Honkirk, Germany. He came here in 1896 and farmed in Plymouth county until 1950, when he moved to Chatsworth. He recently had been engaged in carpenter work.
He was married to Mary Rosena Knecht on March 20, 1912. She died in 1922. He was married to Katherine Albright on Oct. 28, 1926, in Sioux City. She died in 1962.
Survivors include two sons, Emil of Dalaban, Wis.; five daughters, Mrs. Ella Beeler of Akron; Mrs. Josephine Meins of Hawarden; Mrs. Irene Nielsen of Beloit, Wis.; Mrs. Martha Powell of Akron and Mrs. Alma Morrison of Beloit, Ill.; a brother, Carl, of Merrill; 27 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
