John Nobel, 86, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020 at his home in Le Mars.

Private family services will be held at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Reverend Dr. Nevada DeLapp will officiate. Burial with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a public visitation, with no family present, and limited to 15 people at a time practicing social distancing and wearing a mask will be on Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.

John Harold Nobel was born July 23, 1934 in Hull, Iowa, the son of Henry and Hilda (Moorlag) Nobel. He served in the United States Army and ended his service with an honorable discharge. He owned and operated a feed grinding business for several years, later became a partner in a feed store in Maurice. Most of his career (over 50 years) was in the specialized chemical service industry. He started this career when he purchased a franchise of ChemMark with offices in Maurice and Sioux City. In 1968, he moved the business to Le Mars. In 2001, he changed the name of the business to Chemical Sanitizing Systems. In 2011, he sold the business to Swisher Hygiene, stayed with company until 2012, when he retired.

John was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars where he had served as an elder and deacon. He was also a former member of Gideon’s International. He was active in the Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce for many years. In 1988, he was elected captain of the industry for the chamber. He was also a member of the Hope Haven Honor Club and a supporter of the Le Mars Community High School Booster Club and Gehlen Catholic Booster Club.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Marilyn; children, Roxanne Nobel of Grand Rapids, MI, Kevin (Deborah) Nobel of Le Mars, IA, Paulette Nobel of Wellington, FL; grandchildren, Jonathan Nobel, Jamie (Jake) Huber; Jeffery (Maryrose) Nobel; and siblings; Bernard (Adeline) Nobel of Milaca, MN, Harriet (Garret) Van Voorst of Inwood, IA, and Hertilda (Bill) Davelaar of Sioux Center, IA; in-laws Martin (Shirley) Wierda of Sioux Center, IA, Louis (Gloria) Wierda of Maurice, IA, Thelma (Robert-deceased) Brunk of San Jacinto, CA and Clifton (Jonna) Wierda Orange City, IA. Six great grandchildren; Briar, Ada, Makenna, Cora, Holland, Hudson and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hilda Nobel, in-laws Lewis and Lucille Wierda; two siblings: Joanne (Wayne-deceased) Altena and Henrietta (Chris-deceased) Schiebout.
