Mrs. Harley Swisher, who has been ill with leakage of the heart and other complications for some time, passed away at St. Vincent’s hospital in Sioux City on Friday night, May 19 aged 20 years, 1 month, and 4 days. During the time of her illness, Mrs. Swisher was patient and hopeful, often cheering the sad heart and downcast countenances of those around her by a cheery word and a smile. Mrs. Swisher was conscious to the last, and the end nearing, she laid her weary head on the pillow and went to sleep.
Clara Augustine Papke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Papke, was born in Hammond. Indiana, Jan. 15, 1896, she was educated in the public-school s of that city and, on January 29, 1913, she was united in marriage with Harley Swisher, of Hinton, Iowa. May 19, 1916, after an illness of five weeks, the angels of death entered this happy home and took from it the deeply loved wife and young mother.
Besides her devoted husband and dear little baby daughter, Minnie Kathryn, scarcely two years old, she leaves and father, mother, six sisters, two brothers, and a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
Monday morning a short funeral service was conducted at the home, and the remains were then taken to Liberty Township Cemetery and laid to rest.
