Albert L. Drew

Albert Lynn Drew, 89, of Akron, died Wednesday (July 20, 1983) at the State Soldiers Home in Hot Springs, S.D.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the First Church of Christ in Akron. The Rev. Elmer Hodge officiated. Judy Klemme sang “Amazing Grace” and “Rock of Ages”, accompanied by Amy Harris, pianist.

Burial was in Riverside cemetery with graveside rites conducted by Hoschler Post 186, American Legion of Akron and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Elk Point and Sioux City, Schroeder funeral home of Akron was in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were Larry Knecht Garry Klemme, Charles Hendricks, Embert Klemme, Roy Carlson and Darcy Fletcher.

Mr. Drew was born April 20, 1894, to George and Anna Marks Drew at Dysart, Iowa. As a young man he followed the wheat harvest and traveled from the South to Canada.

He was a veteran of World War I, serving in France with the 317 Machine Gun, being discharged out of the infantry. He returned back to Akron and worked here until World War II, when he worked in defense plants in Iowa, Wisconsin and California.

He returned and farmed in the area until retiring to Elk Point in 1955. He moved to the Home at the Hot Springs in 1974 and back to Akron in 1975.

He married Henrietta Pendleton Jan. 22, 1975 at Luverne, Minn. She died in 1978. He lived in Richland for a time before returning to the State Soldiers Home at Hot Springs, S. D.

Mr. Drew made many friends as he had a generous heart and gave to everyone. His memory of people, places, and dates was remarkable.

Survivors include four nephews, Truman Wilson, Elliot Wilson, both of Waterloo, Gilman Wilson, Phoenix, Ariz. (these three attended the funeral services) and Don Peterson, LaPorte, Ia.; nieces; and foster daughter, Mrs. Sybil Campbell of Akron.
