Darlene Ann Wertanen, Baudette, MN, and formerly of Akron, passed away January 7, 2014, at the Lake Wood Health Center in Baudette.

Memorial services were held January 10 at First Lutheran Church in Baudette with Pastor Steve Bovendam officiating. Burial was in Grant Cemetery, Ida Grove, IA. Arrangements by Helgeson Funeral Home, Baudette.

Darlene was born May 2, 1925, in Ida Grove, IA to Herman and Edna (Marth) Janssen. She attended school in Ida Grove and later married Robert L. Theeler in 1945. From that union, nine children were born. She later married Ronald E. "Whitey" Wertanen October 23, 1966, in South Sioux City, NE. They had one child together.

They moved to Baudette in 1974. She was a homemaker to all 10 children, and later in life, she worked for the City of Baudette for 30 years. After Whitey retired from the service, they opened up Whitey's Drive-Inn and had the restaurant from 1985-1995.

Darlene loved to play cards and visit the casino. She enjoyed her time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Whitey of Baudette; children: Steve (Kay) Theeler of Akron, Robert Theeler, Jr., of Sioux City, Craig (Kathy) Theeler of Sioux City, Pam (John) Mullen of Dakota City, NE, Pat Theeler of Akron, Rick (Deb) Theeler of Des Moines, Debra Theeler of MN, Donald (Silva) Theeler of Germany, and Keith Wertanen of Baudette; mother-in-law, Minnie; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Theeler; and granddaughter, Carmen Theeler.
