Mrs. Leo Hughes Dies of Injuries
Fractured Skull Takes Life of One of Train Accident VictimsNona Hughes, the wife of Leo Hughes, a prominent farmer living in Union township, one of the seven that figured in a train accident late Saturday night, passed away at the Sacred Heart hospital early Wednesday morning. A fractured skull caused her death. Mrs. Hughes, with her husband and daughter, together with Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Sampson and two children, were hit by a freight train at the Central avenue crossing Saturday night, while on their way home.
Deceased was 41 years 2 months and 17 days of age and her untimely death is mourned by her beloved husband and only daughter, Marjorie, age 11, and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Hughes and his daughter are still at the hospital, Improving from their injuries.
Mrs. Hughes was born in LeMars on November 5, 1888, and lived here her entire life. She is the daughter of Tom Gooch of this city, who also survives with the devoted husband and daughter.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Presbyterian church, Rev. J. J. DePree officiating. Wiltgen's funeral directors are in charge of the funeral.
Mrs. Hughes's untimely death is quite a blow to this community, where she grew to womanhood and received her education, and also breaks up the love of a devoted family, that enjoyed the acquaintances of many friends.
