Obituary:

Leon L. Jones, former LeMars resident, died at his home in Santa Monica, Calif., Monday, April 17th [1950.] Mr. Jones was apparently in good health until about two weeks ago when he suffered a stroke. The recurrence of a third stroke last Saturday, caused his death early Monday morning.

Mr. Jones was born in Manchester, Iowa, Oct. 10, 1877. He came to LeMars with his parents in 1893 and attended the Public schools. Later he became a telegraph operator and was employed in this position with the Illinois Central Railroad Co. for about nine years when he was promoted to the position of passenger agent at LeMars, which position he held for thirty-five years until he retired on pension April 1943, after forty-four years service with the Illinois Central Railroad Co. He was held in high esteem by the officials of the company and his fellow employees knew him as their friend.

On May 24th, 1900, he was united in marriage with Miss Kate DeJong of Orange City, Iowa. To this union was born three daughters, Mrs. Harry Masters, Reading, Pa.; Mrs. Andy Conelly, Oklahoma City, who died May 28, 1938; and Mrs. Richard Tindall, Santa Monica, Calif.

In May of 1943, Mr. and Mrs. Jones moved to Santa Monica, Calif., where they have since resided. Mr. Jones was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church for more than fifty years, holding the office of Sunday School superintendent and that of church trustee for many years. His quiet unassuming personality and friendly manner made him many friends and he was held in high regard by all who knew him.

For some time past, Mr. and Mrs. had been making happy plans for celebrating their Fiftieth wedding anniversary which would have been occasioned on May 24th of this year. His sickness and death came as a shock to his family and friends as apparently he had been in good health up to the time he was stricken.

He leaves to survive him his wife, Kate; and two daughters, Mrs. Harry Masters, Reading, Pa., and Mrs. Richard [Mildred] Tindall, Santa Monica, Calif. Two sisters, Mrs. Ben T.
