Funeral of Mrs. Barbara Wurth Is Held This Morning

Mrs. Barbara Wurth, widow of the late Plymouth county publisher, Mathias Wurth, passed away Friday afternoon, following a lingering sickness. The funeral was held this morning with a requiem mass at St Joseph’s church, Msgr. W. A. Pape officiating. The funeral was largely attended by her many friends, neighbors and relatives. Wiltgen’s funeral directors were in charge. The Society of the Christian Mothers attended in a body.

Deceased was born on March 21, 1851, at Vianden, Grand Duchy, Luxemburg and was 79 years of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Wurth grew to womanhood at her birthplace and was united in marriage to Mathias Wurth in the spring of 1876, when they moved to Fredonia township, Plymouth county, where they farmed. Mr. Wurth had farmed here several years before he went back to Luxemburg to claim his bride.

The couple lived on the farm about eight years and then moved to Le Mars, where Mr. Wurth purchased the Le Mars Herold and later established the Le Mars Globe-Post. He published these newspapers for 17 years and then went back on the farm.

Several years later, Mr. and Mrs. Wurth and daughter made a trip to Europe and when they returned, settled again in Le Mars, until the end. Deceased was a good woman and a devoted member of the Catholic church. She leaves many friends who join with the relatives in mourning her passing.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Wurth, two dying in infancy. The living are: J.P. Wurth, Fredonia township; Nick, Elkton, Minn., and Mrs. John Hentges, Le Mars. Her husband preceded her in death 10 years ago.

Note: Her maiden name is Wolf.
