Vincent, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Aalfs, residing about five miles west of here in Union county, S.D., passed away Saturday evening, July 17, 1926, at about 9:45 o'clock, of tetanus, commonly known as lock-jaw. About a week before Vincent ran a sliver into his foot. After it was believed all the sliver had been removed, home remedies were applied, and the boy appeared to be getting along all right until Friday morning, when he complained of not feeling well, A doctor was called and administered to him, but he continued to grow worse and was seized with convulsions, which continued until death came as a relief to his intense suffering. The anti-toxin treatment and everything else known to medical science was employed in an effort to save the child's life, but all without avail.

Vincent John Jacob Aalfs was born in Union County, S.D., February 11, 1918, and died at the age of 8 years, 5 months and 6 days. He was an unusually bright and loveable lad, and his sad and untimely death came with crushing force upon the parents and other loved ones. Besides his parents, he is mourned by his sister, Dorothy, and his brother, Edsel; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Aalfs, and his grandfather, I. Halvorsen, of this city, and in addition to these many other relatives and friends. The community extends its sincere sympathy to the sorrowing family.

After a brief service at the home on Monday afternoon, the funeral was held in the English Lutheran church, of this City, conducted by Rev. O.F. Bohman, in the presence of a large assemblage of friends. Musical selections were rendered by Miss Elsie Johnson and Mrs. Axel Johnson, and by a group from the Sunday school. The pallbearers were uncles of the deceased—Wm. and Fred Halvorsen and Clarence and Clifford Aalfs. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
