Aloysius J. Vaske, Sr., 94, of Remsen died Monday, Feb. 27, 1989, in the LeMars hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Dennis Sefcik officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery under direction of the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Vaske was born Feb. 8, 1895, in Remsen to Fred and Josephine Vonderharr Vaske. He was raised and educated in the Remsen area. He married Josephine Stodden January 4, 1927, in Mapleton. The couple farmed near Remsen until retiring in 1962. They moved into Remsen in 1967.

Mr. Vaske had been residing at Happy Siesta Retirement Home in Remsen since 1984. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Al Vaske, Jr. of Remsen; nine daughters, Mrs. Victor (Lucille) Zenk and Mrs. Robert (Theresa) Reuter both of LeMars, Sister Florence Vaske OSF of Remsen, Mrs. Gordon (Marian) Holzman of Alton, Mrs. Marvin (Alvira) Schwarz of Marcus, Mrs. Darrell (Rita) Williams of Sioux City, Sister Phyllis Vaske OSF of Muskogee, Okla., Sister Rosemary Vaske OSF of Jesup and Loretta Vaske of Sioux City; 40 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Walter and Vincent, both in infancy; three grandsons; three brothers, Bernard, Lawrence and Edward and two sisters, Sister Fidelis (Cecelia) Vaske OSF and Sister Vivian (Mary) Vaske OSF.
