Julia Buccola
Dec. 11, 1920—Jan. 9, 1998Julia A. Buccola, 77, LeMars, died Friday, Jan. 9, at Northwest Arkansas Medical Center in Springdale, AR, after a lengthy illness.
Services are 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 14) at Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars, with the Rev. Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in LeMars.
Julia A. Buccola, daughter of Martin and Cecelia (Schiltz) Wanderscheid, was born Dec. 11, 1920. As a young girl, she moved with her family to LeMars and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School.
She married Vero D. Calkins on Aug. 9, 1941, in Rockport, MO. They made their home in LeMars until 1970, when they moved to Akron area, where he was a self-employed plumber.
Mr. Calkins died April 16, 1978. She moved to Amarillo, TX, in the early 1980s. She married Carl Buccola on Feb. 1, 1982.
The couple lived in Amarillo until Mr. Buccola’s death on Nov. 9, 1994. Shortly after, she moved back to LeMars.
Survivors include five sons, David and Beth Calkins of Springdale, AR, Jack and Jenyce Calkins of Amarillo, TX, Dean and Joyce Calkins of Waynesville, MO, Terry and JoAnn Calkins of Amarillo, TX, and Tom Calkins of Des Moines; two daughters, Sandi and Wayne Weatherford of Washburn, MO, and Nancy and Doug Osterbuhr of Sheldon; 29 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; five sisters, Margaret Boetger, Bernetta Ernst and Elizabeth and Elmer Ernst, all of LeMars, Mary Hodge of Canoga Park, CA, and Rita Bay of LeMars; five brothers, Paul and Ethel Wanderscheid of Sioux City, Harold and Rita Wanderscheid and Martin and Arlene Wanderscheid, all of LeMars, and Dale and Lee Wanderscheid and Jerome and Peggy Wanderscheid, all of Amarillo, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Duane.
