Shirley Mae Kehrberg was born March 22, 1920 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Albert A. and Grace (Dahly) Kehrberg. She lived on the family farm near Neptune, Iowa, and attended country school in Stanton Township. She graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1937. After graduation, she worked at Killeas Creamery and later worked at the Agricultural Adjustment Administration office in Le Mars, where she met her future husband, Loren Hanno, when he came in as a customer.

In December of 1950, they moved to a farm west of Le Mars. Loren and Shirley continued to live on the farm until they moved to Le Mars in 1976. Even though they lived in town, their hearts always remained on the farm. Loren passed away December 20, 2006.
Shirley was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars where she was an active member of Leah Circle. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Mother’s Study Club. She loved playing cards and reading, which kept her mentally sharp until she passed away.
