Mrs. Henry Bonnema (Gertrude Postma), residing southeast of Ireton, died Monday morning from diabetes at the age of 56 years and 10 months. She had been seriously ill for about three weeks.
She was born in Holland and came to America when she was six years of age, making her home in Chicago. She was united in marriage to her bereaved husband, December 4, 1883. Nine years ago they came to Ireton and have since made their home in this vicinity. Besides her husband, she leaves four children to mourn her death.
Note: Geertruida was born September 29, 1861 in Niehove, Oldehave, Groningen, Netherlands to Folkert Tjeerds Postma and Trijntje Knap who both died before she was 6. She immigrated to America with her aunt and uncle, Gerrit and Henderijke Postma. She died August 19, 1918 and is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton, Sioux County, Iowa.
Source: Birth records were researched by a retired citizen of the Netherlands who was determined to find Geertruida as she had disappeared from records when her parents died.
