Kathryn Mae's Obituary

Kathryn Mae Pollock Duin, 95 of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Sioux City Baptist Church, 3222 Pawnee Place, with Reverend James Pointer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden, Iowa. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Kathryn was born on September 26, 1919 to Leo L. and Mary Alma (McGloghen) Comstock in Hawarden, Iowa. She attended country school in her early years, then after they moved into town, attended school in Hawarden until her graduation from high school. Kathryn married Robert E. Pollock in August of 1937 and together they made their home in Akron, Iowa. They had four children; Sandra, Deborah, Stephan, and Richard.

Kathryn was very artistic and highly skilled in sewing. She could sew anything. She often sewed her children's clothes for school and play. When Akron had their centennial, Kathryn sewed her dress and made her hat to match and Debbie's dress and Rick and Steve's outfits for that event. For her daughter Sandra's wedding, she designed and made Sandra's wedding dress, Debbie's flower girl dress and hat and Rick and Steve's tuxedos. Kathryn loved to dance and enjoyed many good times with friends in Akron hosting bridge club when it was their turn. She was always very fashion minded and took pride in how she appeared. She was called Fancy by some, Fashion Diva by others even at the age of 95. Kathryn had been a secretary in Sioux City for Penn Life for many years. She changed careers and went to school at Stewart's School of Hairstyling. After she graduated, Kathryn worked for Cost Cutters in Sioux City, and later she became an instructor at Stewart's School of Hair Styling in Omaha. The marriage between Robert and Kathryn ended in 1970.

She then married Fred Duin in 1972. They enjoyed their life together until Fred's death May 26, 1988. Kathryn received Christ as her Savior July 1991 at Sioux City Baptist Church, then later followed in scriptural baptism. She was a member of the Sioux City Baptist Church. Kathryn's last residence was at Regency Care Center in South Sioux City, Nebraska. She loved her Regency family. She enjoyed the activities and the special attention received by the staff. Kathryn's family will always be so grateful for the love, care and kindness they bestowed upon her. She was the resident diva.

Kathryn is survived by her daughter Sandra Lilly and her husband Randall of Sioux City; daughter Deborah Pollock Barbee of South Sioux City, NE.; son Richard Pollock and his wife Sherry of Golden, Colorado; sister Sharen Larsen and husband Ron of Sioux City; brother-in-law Maynard Christianson of Viborg, S.D.; sister-in-law Kathy Comstock of Wisconsin and sister-in-law Donna Comstock of Rapid City SD; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husbands, her son Stephen Pollock on June 21, 1980, granddaughter Carla Rhode, and her sisters Blanche Johnston, JoAnn Stahlman, Susan Koppes, Kharen Verzani , and Grace Christiansen and brothers Frank Comstock and Max Comstock.
