AKRON, Iowa -- Percy W. Smizer, 81, of Akron, died Tuesday in an Akron hospital after a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron. The Rev. Harold Sieglaff of the Westfield Congregational Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Akron.

Mr. Smizer was born Aug. 19, 1901, near Hawarden. He was a lifelong farmer in the area retiring to Akron nursing home in 1968.

Pallbearers were Larry Smizer, Roy Dusban, Curtis Johnson, Elmo Fletcher, Robert Fletcher, and Darcy Fletcher.

Mr. Smizer never married.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Leona Smizer, Hawarden; two nephews, Larry Smizer, Akron and Gerald Nygard, Hawarden, and two nieces; Linda McKee, Fort Sheridan, Ill., and June Reed, Bamburg, Germany; seven great-nieces and nephews.
