Bertha Louise Nygard

Bertha Nygard, 92, of Hawarden, Iowa, died Friday, November 18, 1994 at the Morningside Manor in Alcester, S.D.

Services were held Monday, Nov. 21, 1994 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron with the a Rev. William Flemr officiating. Robert Hansen sang "How Great Thou Art" and Take Time To Be Holy." The congregation sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Carol Harris was organist.

Burial was in Riverside Cemetery under direction of Schroeder Funeral Home.

Casketbearers were Jim Sommervold, Raymond Johnson, Richard Hohn, Bruce Van Buskirk, Kirk Shipper, and Lois Southard.

Mrs. Nygard was born October 20, 1902, in Union County, S.D., the daughter of John and Seri (Blosberg) Sommervold. She married Howard R. Nygard July 4, 1925. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Nygard was a member of the Ladies Aid, she sang in the church choir, and had taught Sunday school for a number of years.

Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn and her husband Andrew Schipper of Ireton, Iowa; a son, Gerald Nygard of Hawarden, Iowa; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbaand in 1971; her parents; two brothers, Sivert and Ole; two sisters, one in infancy, and Johanna Johnson.
