Ralph C. Berner

Ralph Christian Berner, 72, Sioux City, died Thursday at Sioux City St. Joseph hospital after a 7-week illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mauer Funeral Chapel with Rev. Floyd E. Cripps of Wesley United Methodist church, Sioux City, officiating.

Burial will be in the Merrill Hillside cemetery, under the direction of Mauer Funeral Home. Prayer services will be tonight (Friday) at 8 p.m.

He was born May 3, 1897, at Merrill a son of the late Christian and Katherine (Hoffman) Berner. He married Ruby V. Rollins January 3, 1918, at Sioux City. The couple farmed near Merrill until retiring to Leeds in 1952.

He was a member of the United Methodist church and was active in the Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, in infancy. Survivors are his wife; two sons, Darrell R. of Puyallup, Wash., and Herschel A., of rural Merrill; a brother, Dr. Haliver Berner of Council Bluffs; two sisters, Mrs. Dula Knapp of Sioux City and Mrs. Edna Rollins of LeMars; and two grandchildren.
