Elaine Erickson, 94, formerly of Indianapolis, IN, died on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Illinois Knights Templar Home, Paxton.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 2-4 pm at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 2:00 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2101 S. Prospect Ave., Champaign.

Elaine was born on Nov. 28, 1917 in Sioux City, IA to Rolland and Margaretha (Claassen) Smikahl. She married Clarence Erickson on Sept. 7, 1942 in Akron Iowa.

He preceded her in death on April 14, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Smikahl.

She is survived by her children, Scott (Kathy) Erickson of Champaign and Patricia (Roger) Himes of Powell, OH; 4 grandchildren, Lauren (Arthur) Pero, Robert Erickson, Ryan (Elizabeth) Himes and Jennifer (Jason) Riley; and 4 great-grandchildren, Madeline and Alexandra Riley, Olivia Himes and Ava Pero.

Elaine received a Bachelor of Music degree from McPhail University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Dakota. She was also a member of the National Music Sorority, Mu Phi Epsilon. She worked as a music teacher in South Dakota and Nebraska until she met Clarence and started their family. Elaine traveled extensively. Music and traveling were her passions.
