Lorine Hawkins, 85, of Maurice, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019, at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.

Lorine Virginia Blackmore was born Jan. 15, 1934, in rural Hinton, the daughter of Walter and Hedvig (Schultz) Blackmore. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill. She attended country school in Plymouth County.

She was united in marriage to Kenneth “Bud” Hawkins on Jan. 21, 1955, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill. Lorine and Bud farmed in Sherman Township, Sioux County, for 59 years. In 1981, they moved from the farm to Maurice.

They enjoyed spending the winter months at their home at Mission Bell Resort in Mission, Texas. They enjoyed 22 winters in Texas. While wintering in Texas, they became involved with Children’s Haven International located across the border in Mexico. They volunteered for many years and also helped transport supplies across the border. Bud died Oct. 18, 2006.

In March 2019, she became a resident at Park Place Estates in Le Mars.

Lorine was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Reading Township, rural Ireton. Lorine and Bud took great pride in caring for the church and cemetery grounds.

She was also a member of Maurice Women’s Club. She enjoyed playing cards and putting together jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include her children: Louann (Lavern) Schmidt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Roy (Roxanne) Hawkins of Orange City, Gene Hawkins of Vermillion, South Dakota, and Mary (Kurt) Korver of Alton; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren: Greg (Jennifer) Schmidt and their son, Tristan; Mike Schmidt and his son, Tay; Clay (Jennifer) Schmidt and their children, Addisyn, Audrina, and Axel; Brenna Schmidt; Ryan (Andrea) Hawkins and their children, Jorden, Jaydn, and J.J.; Devin (Melissa) Hawkins and their children, Brady and Dyllian; Thad Hawkins (Kate Holtorp) and their daughter, Emma; Chris (Emily) Hawkins, Erin (Ed) Terwilliger, Kelli Hawkins and her children, Odyn and Jayde; Justin (Brittany) Korver and their children, William and Nikolai; and Jorden Korver; her sister: Mary Crippen of Merrill; her in-laws: Viola Blackmore of Merrill, and Joretta Harms of Lennox, South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Hedvig Blackmore; her husband, Bud Hawkins; her brothers: Laurence (Georganna) Blackmore, John (Marian) Blackmore, Orville Blackmore, Norman Blackmore, Walter (Barbara) Blackmore, Larry Blackmore; her sisters, Juanita Schoen and Dorothy Hesbeck, and a sister in infancy, Betty Blackmore; and her brother-in-law: Jack Crippen.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. David Daumer will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars at 10 a.m. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., today (Monday), at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.
