Rodney D. Gearke, 63, of rural Maurice, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at his residence following a five-month illness.
Rodney D. Gearke was born May 26, 1940, at Le Mars, the son of Glen and Ruth Gearke. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1958. Through the years, he had been employed at Pews and Grotewold Chevrolet in Le Mars, and IBP as well as farming, from which he retired.

On Feb. 3, 1962, he married Mildred Hansen at St. Joseph's Church, Neptune. The couple had made their home at rural Maurice for 31 years.

He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; one son, Dale and his wife, Patty Gearke of Le Mars; two grandchildren, Amanda and Reid; two brothers, Gary Gearke and his wife, Marlene, and Robert Gearke and his wife, Vycci; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Glen Gearke.

A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Parish Hall in Struble.
