Ernest (Ernie) O. Nagel, 97, of Kingsley, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Ernest was born Sept. 22, 1907, at rural Moville, the son William and Martha (Rippke) Nagel. He was raised in the Moville area and lived there until his marriage to Irene Bornholtz on Sept. 17, 1939. in Bronson. After their marriage, Ernest and Irene lived in the Bronson area a short time before moving to the Pierson area. There they farmed until 1957 at which time they moved to a farm northwest of Kingsley. They farmed there until 1976 at which time they retired and moved to Kingsley. Irene died May 18, 1990. After that Ernie continued to live in their home.
Ernest was a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee, head usher for over 50 years and janitor for several years. He played dartball at the church, being part of the team that won the state tournament.
Survivors include one daughter, Lila Derby of Kingsley, and one son, Bill Nagel and his wife, Donna, of Le Mars; and seven grandchildren, Mary Schumacher and her husband, John, Dan Derby and his wife, Charlotte, Christina Clark and her husband, Larry, Cindy Nagel, Peggy Derby, Robert Nagel, Darla Gary and her fiancé, Todd Davis and 21 great-grandchildren.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Irene; daughter, Sharron; two sisters, Marie Weston and Martha Weston; two brothers, John and George Nagel; and one great-granddaughter, Dawn Gray.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Correctionville, with Pastor Bert Burwell, A.i.M. officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation begins after 2 p.m. today (Thursday) with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley.
