10 March 2014HINTON, Iowa | Clara E. Raby, 97, of Hinton passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at a Sioux City hospital after a short illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hinton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kolleen Queneer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave.
Clara was born April 1, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles and Meta Eberhard. Clara was baptized and confirmed in Rock Island, Ill., before her family moved to Plymouth County. She graduated from Liberty Consolidated High School.
Clara married Delbert Raby on Sept. 5, 1933 in Hinton, and they had been married for over 80 years. Clara and Delbert farmed at Moville, Iowa, for approximately 10 years and then moved to rural Hinton, Iowa, in 1952 and farmed there until retiring in 1977. They then moved to Hinton and resided there until moving to Whispering Creek Retirement Center in Sioux City in January of 2014.
She was a member of Merrill Melbourne United Methodist Church, Hinton Senior Citizens Center and the Hinton Garden Club. She enjoyed cooking and making cherry and apple pies.
Clara is survived by her husband, Delbert of Hinton; four daughters, Shirley Kooker of Spencer, Iowa, Donna Lucht and her husband, Jim of Hinton, Carol McMillen and her husband, Larry of Merrill, Iowa, and Kathy Priborsky and her husband, Bob of Littleton, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; nine great-stepgrandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Meta Eberhard; her brothers, Bob Eberhard, Harold Eberhard, Walter Eberhard, Eldon Eberhard, Carl Eberhard, Rudolph Eberhard and Willard Eberhard; sisters, Ruth Wetrosky, Leona Jacks, Lorene Meek and Evelyn Conjurski; and two sons-in-law, Bill Weinrich and Earl Kooker.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland, the Salvation Army or the Merrill Melbourne United Methodist Church.
