Leo P. Nemmers, 81, retired, owner-operator of Nemmers Construction in Le Mars for 55 years, died Sunday (Sept. 18,1977) at Floyd Valley hospital after an illness of several weeks.
He had been hospitalized two weeks.
Mr. Nemmers was born April 14, 1896, in Le Mars to Peter and Margaret Keiser Nemmers.
Lucille Walsh and Mr. Nemmers were married June 9,1925, at Marcus.
He was a lifelong resident, builder and contractor. Mr. Nemmers served overseas in the army during world war 1. He retired from the contracting business in October 1974.
He was a 50-year member of the Elks lodge and a member of Wasmer post 241, Last Man's club and helped organize the first drum and bugle corps in Le Mars.
Wasmer post, 241, American Legion, will conduct graveside honors.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic church with Rev. Francis Staber officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery under direction of the Luedtke funeral home.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Monday. Six grandsons will act as casketbearers.
Survivors are his wife, Lucille; a son, Marvin Nemmers of Le Mars; four daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Mary Lou) Mayrose, Mrs. Orville (Marjorie) Livermore, Mrs. William (Barbara) Baack and Betty Nemmers, all of Le Mars.
There are 27 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Genevieve Traufler, Longview, Wash., also survives.
Preceding Mr. Nemmers in death was a grandson, Steve Mayrose.
