Widely Known Farmer Takes His Own Life

Oscar Anderson, of Hungerford Township, Shoots Himself Through the Head

Despondency Is Cause Brooding Over Tragic Death Of His Wife

Supposedly despondent over sickness and other worries, Fritz Oscar Anderson, 55, prominent farmer and stockfeeder, living two miles south west of Hinton, took his own life by shooting himself in the head with a shotgun Friday morning.

His dead body was discovered by his brother, Alfred Anderson returning to the house, after being engaged in work around the premises during the forenoon.

The dead man was found in an upstairs bedroom. He had taken a 12 guage shotgun and placed it in his mouth the charge shattering his brains.

The deceased left a short note indicating his intentions. Alfred Anderson notified the authorities and S. H. Luken, of Le Mars, county coroner, was called to investigate and pronounced it a case of suicide.

Brooded Over Wife's Death

Brooding over the suicide of his wife who hanged herself May 27. while other members of the family were away, because of ill health, was advanced as one of the chief causes fro the farmer's act.

Mr. Anderson shot himself when his two chidren were away from home. His son, Raymond, age 21, was at the farm of a neighbor and his daughter Eleanor, 16, was at school.

Oscar Anderson was born February 9, 1879, and came to the United States in 1901. He was married in Chicago in 1910 and with his wife, shortly after their marriage, came to Hinton and engaged in farming.

Mr. Anderson was rated as a successful farmer and stockbreeder and was prominent in community and Farm Bureau endeavors and was highly regarded as a neighbor and friend among a large number.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD LAST SUNDAY

Many friends and neighbors attended the funeral services of F.O. Anderson which were held at West’s Funeral Home in Sioux City, Sunday afternoon. Rev. W.E. Ellison, pastor of the Hinton Methodist church, officiated and music was furnished by the Melbourne quartet. Burial was made in Graceland Park cemetery at Sioux City.

Despondent over sickness and other worries, Mr. Anderson took his own life at his farm home two miles south-west of Hinton, last Friday forenoon.

The deceased was born February 9, 1879, in Sweden and came to the United States in 1901. Shortly after his marriage in Chicago, in 1910, he with his wife came to Plymouth county and located on a farm near Hinton. He was 55 years of age. His occupation was farming and stock raising and he was successful in his endeavors. He developed his land to a high state of cultivation and during the years spent here had erected a comfortable home.

Mr. Anderson was prominent in community affairs and was a good friend and neighbor. He had acquired many friends in this vicinity who mourn his demise.

He is survived by his two children, Raymond Anderson, 21, and Eleanor Anderson, 16, both residing at home, and a brother, Alfred Anderson, also residing at the home.
