He is probably buried in Christ Lutheran Cemetery with his mother since her obituary said she was buried next the three of her children. His mother's maiden name was Cordes.

LeMars, Oct. 18 – Special to the Journal: On Saturday last Herman Furchner, the little son of August Furchner, who resides in Preston township, was killed.

[Transcriber Research Note: The little son's name was likely not Herman, but should be the young son named John Furchner. Per an ancestry.com Family Tree record:
John Furchner
Born: 18 Jun 1878
Died: 16 Oct 1886
Herman Furchner, per the 1880 Census same household, was a brother to the father, August Furchner.]

This summer he has been engaged in herding cattle, and on Saturday, before starting out, he decided to tie himself to the saddle, which he did by buckling a strap around his waist and then attaching it to the saddle. He left the yard fastened to the saddle in the manner described and rode into the field with the cattle. The horse returning in the afternoon without the boy alarmed those at the house and search was instituted. After searching for some time Mr. Furchner found the body some distance from the house lying on the ground.

The boy’s back had been broken and the strap which had been around his waist had cut into the flesh. It is not known how the accident occurred, though it is supposed that the horse succeeded in unsealing the boy and ran until the strap which fastened the boy to the saddle became detached.
