Jeanette Margaret Huffman

April 22, 1935 - February 25, 2018

Jeanette Margaret Huffman, 82, of Cory, Indiana died, surrounded by her family, at 9:18 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018. She was born April 22, 1935, in Crofton, Nebraska to Peter DeBlauw and Anna Bruscher DeBlauw.

She is survived by the love of her life and husband, Everett Doyle Huffman.

Survivors include, Carol Ann Huffman of Terre Haute, Indiana, Brian Huffman and wife Eun-Mi of San Jose, California, Larry Huffman of Sarasota, Florida, Anita Judson and husband Mark of Cary, North Carolina, and Allen Huffman and wife Siew of Broomfield, Colorado; one sister, Darnelle Nissen; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Melvin DeBlauw.

Jeanette was born on a farm near Crofton, Nebraska and attended a one-room school house in the 1st and 2nd grade. The family moved to a farm in LeMars, Iowa when she was eight. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and it's grade school and high school. She met and married Everett in 1954 and moved to Terre Haute, Indiana in 1956. After having five children she went on to obtain her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Teaching from Indiana State University. She taught for 27 years in the Vigo County School Corporation and retired in 2000 from Riley Elementary School. She also was very active in her community as a Girl Scout Leader, as a member of the VFW Post 972, the German Oberlander Club, the Business and Professional Women's Club, the Sewing Club, and the Red Hat Society. She loved to sew clothes for herself and her family, as well as sew and donate many baby and lap blankets to local hospitals, and dog pillows to humane shelters. Her love of nature and living on the farm near Riley, Indiana was equally matched by her love of travel and see the world with her husband.

Visitation is 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street. Friday, March 2, 2018 visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. and mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Dan Bedel officiating. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
