HIP FRACTURE PROVES FATAL

Mrs. Maria Helmrichs Was An Honored Pioneer of Preston Township

FUNERAL HELD MONDAY

Infirmities of Age Preclude Recovery From Accident

Mrs. Maria Helmrichs, wife of Berend Helmrichs, living on Third Avenue NW., passed away on Thursday evening after a lingering illness. Mrs. Helmrichs had been suffering from the infirmities of old age and two weeks ago she fell and fractured her hip. Pneumonia developed and brought about her death.

Mrs. Helmrichs was born in Heldorp, near Doenitz, Mecklenburg, Germany, on December 13, 1845, and was a daughter of Christian Rickert and Dora Schuldt. With her parents she came to this country in 1869, the family locating in Pennsylvania. She was united in marriage with Fred Buelow in 1872 and three children were born to them, two boys and a girl. The boys and their father preceded her in death.

Mr. Buelow died in 1880. Shortly after his death Mrs. Buelow came to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to join her parents, who had come to Iowa previously and to take care of her mother, who was sick. Her mother died in 1884 and she came to Le Mars with her father. They located in Preston township and in 1889 she was united in marriage with Berend Helmrichs. They lived happily on a farm until the year 1910, when they retired and came to Le Mars to make their home. Active in Church Work Mrs. Helmrichs was a member of St. John's Lutheran church and a member of the Ladies' Aid society and took an active part in church and social circles as long as health permitted. She would have been 87 years of age on the twelfth of next month and lived a long and useful life.

She leaves her husband, one daughter, five grandchildren and one greatgrandchild and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon with services in St. John's Lutheran church conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. J. Vollmar and interment was made in the Le Mars cemetery.
