Note: His father spells the last name with 2 n's Hartmann and his mother's maiden name is Saathoff.

Harry Hartman, 56, a farmer of the Alcester vicinity, died at his home Monday, January 25, after a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at Peace Lutheran church, south of Alcester, with Rev. E. C. Beyer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hartman, he was born May 11, 1897, in Osterfrizland, Germany, coming to America with his parents at the age of one. The family first lived in the Akron vicinity and later came to the Hawarden community.

He was married to Miss Anna Beckman of Akron in 1921. Ever since his marriage he lived in the Alcester territory.

He was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Germany and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Akron. Later he transferred his membership to the Peace Lutheran church of Alcester.

Besides the widow, he is survived by nine children, Esther, who lives at home, Marvin of Ireton, Norman and Edward, Mrs. Francis Green, Mrs. Charlie Hall, Mrs. Melvin Rodness and Mrs. Art Peterson of Alcester and Mrs. Darold McVay of Beresford; his mother, Mrs. Ben Hartman of Le Mars; four brothers, Alfred of Craig, William, George and John Hartman of Hawarden, and three sisters, Mrs. Henry Helmrichs of Ireton, Mrs. Fred Jacobs of Akron and Mrs. George Kruse of Le Mars.
