Minnie Pieper Funeral Sat.
Mrs. Minnie Christine Eggebrecht Pieper, daughter of Marie nee Ladwig and Frederick Eggebrecht, was born in Linanberg, Germany, Nov. 6, 1837. In infancy, she was baptized into the Christian faith in the Lutheran church of Linanberg. Later in life, she was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Begaro, Germany by Pastor Dirchman.
In the year 1889, she came to this country with several members of her family and settled in Sioux County, la Two years after her arrival here, she was united in holy matrimony with John Pieper at Orange City.
The Pieper family were blessed with a large family of 13 children, including two sets of twins. Five of the children, as well as her husband, preceded her in death. Those who survive her arc as follows: Mrs. Margaret Hoops of Steen, Minn.; Mrs. Amanda Hoops of Galva, Ia.; Gustave of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Emil of Irwin, Idaho, Mrs. Emma Jacobsen of Swan Valley. Idaho; Irvin of Irwin, Idaho; and William of Craig, Iowa.
The Pieper's first made their home near Sioux Center, la., and later moved to Cushing, Iowa. Between the years of 19I4-1923, they lived in Idaho. It was here that the father and husband John Pieper was killed by lightning in July of 1923.
Since 1923 Mrs. Pieper made her home at Craig, Iowa, where she was tenderly cared for by her youngest son, William. All of her sons were in the service of her country. Two of her sons served in the first World War and two in World War II. Three of these sons served overseas.
During the past few years, Mrs. Pieper was admitted to the hospital several times. The last time being Sept. 14th. At the hospital in Le Mars, la., her condition was found to be critical and from day to day, she grew weaker. She departed this life, Tuesday, September 20, 1949, at 7:20 p. m., having reached the age of 81 years, 10 months and 14 days.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, 1949, at St. John's Lutheran church at Craig. Iowa, in which church, she was a member since she moved to Craig, Iowa. Pastor W. K. Schmidt will be in charge of the services. Burial will be in the Holstein cemetery at Holstein, la.
Mrs. Pieper is survived by her seven children, 23 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters and 1 brother. Her surviving two sisters are Mrs. Augusta Neubauer of Battle Creek, la., and Mrs. Reka Kube of Cushing, la., and the one brother, Herman Eggebrecht, Sr. of Craig, Iowa.
One brother and three sisters proceeded her in death. Namely John and Marie Eggebrecht of Germany: Mrs. Martha Baack and Mrs. Bertha Freiberg, both of Plymouth County
