Early Resident Of Grant Township Taken By Death
Mrs. William Heeren Lived On the Same Farm For Sixty-Years
Death claimed Mrs. William Heeren, 81, early settler in Plymouth county, at her home in Grant township on Saturday, April 16. Mrs. Heeren of the late had been suffering from an internal malady and infirities of age.
Mrs. Heeren was a native of Germany. Her maiden name was Anna Catherine Johnson. She was a daughter of Johann and Marie Johnson and was born on January 27, 1857, at Wiesderfehrn, Ostfriesland, where she went to school and grew up. When a girl of 17 she came to America and made her home at Talulla, Ill. She was married at that place to William Heeren June 20, 1874. They came to LeMars in 1877, and settled on a farm in Grant township which has been the family home ever since.
Mr. Heeren died about 11 years ago. Mrs. Heeren leaves nine children to mourn her departure. They are Mrs. Eilert Weiken of Chatsworth, Mrs. H. C. Baack of Carthage, S. D., Mrs. Oscar Onken of Morrison, Ill., Mrs. H. w. Gorath of Howard, S. D., William Heeren of Sioux City, John, Albert, Herman and Harm Heeren of Grant township. There are 45 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Heeren was a devoted wife and mother and homemaker, a good neighbor esteemed by the whole community where she lived for 61 years.
Funeral This Afternoon
The funeral services will be held this Tuesday afternoon at Christ Lutheran church in Grant township with the pastor, Rev. F. Bunge, officiating, and interment made in the Grant township cemetery beside the remains of her husband. The funeral cortege will leave the house at 2 o’clock.
