Neil Warneke Instantly Killed
The people of the community were terribly shocked last Saturday morning when word was received here that Neil Warneke, youngest son of August and Elizabeth (Kimm) Warneke, had been killed.
The young man was about the place, and in the course of his choring operations, went to the elevator on the farm to start the gasoline engine, with which feed was ground for the stock. In cranking the engine, in some manner, his clothing was caught in the flywheel, throwing him violently to the ground. The impact was of such force, that his neck was broken and other bones broken, besides bruising his body terribly. It is thought that his body was carried around several times, by the wheel, until his clothing gave away, releasing it.
It all happened very suddenly, as it was only a couple of minutes from the time he separated from the company of the hired man who went to the hydrant for a pail of water to put in the tank to cool the engine, and who, discovered his lifeless body when he returned with the water.
The accident was a terrible shock to the parents and family, who have the heartfelt sympathy of all in his great loss.
Neil Clinton Warneke, son of Mr and Mrs August Warneke, was born May 18, 1901, on a farm near Kingsley, Iowa. He attended the district school near his home, and proved a faithful schlor. He also attended the Kingsley High School. When his school days were over, he engaged on the farm, where he labored diligently.
Although, Niel did not affiliate with any church, he frequently attended the Congregational Church. He was a quiet, unassuming young man of good character, and very much devoted to his home and loved ones.
His brief, earthly life of 22 years, 8 months and 21 days came to a tragic end Feb. 9, 1924. He leaves to mourn his untimely death, his beloved parents, three sorrowing brothers, Elmer D. and George A. of Whitten, SD; and Clarence G., at home; four devoted sisters, Mrs Jessie Shesler of Correctionville; Mrs Florence Wink of Moville; Mrs Emma mathers and Addie, at home. One sister, Mrs Kate Hardeson, departed this life five years ago. Beside the intimate relatives, there is a whole host of friends who will miss his friendly presence more keely with each new day.
Funeral was at the home and then the remains were brought to the Methodist church in Kingsley.Interment in the Kingsley cemetery. May God comfort the sorrowing relatives and friends.
