Richard G. "Dick" Moir

Richard G. "Dick" Moir, 68, of LeMars died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at the Abbey of LeMars.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Aug. 27 at 10:30 a. m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in LeMars. Rev. Kevin Richter officiated. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in LeMars under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

Richard Glenn was born July 21, 1936, at LeMars, the son of Glenn A. and Evelyn (Dixson Baldwin) Moir. He attended Sherman Township School #1 and graduated from Maurice High School in 1955. He continued his education at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and Westmar College in LeMars.

In 1957, Dick enlisted in the Iowa National Guard. He served as a 1st Sgt. with companies in LeMars and Sheldon for 12 years.

On June 15, 1959, Dick married Audra Kipp at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in LeMars. Dick and his family farmed on a Century Farm in Sherman Township until 1986. He also worked at Lampert's Lumberyard, operated Dick's Woodworking, Wells Dairy and Bower's Clothing.

Dick loved repairing and restoring antiques as well as custom projects. He built the altar and lectern from a communion rail at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball, and he played the trumpet in the Maurice Band. He also enjoyed singing in school and at the Seney Methodist Church. He bowled for many years and was an avid golfer.

Mr. Moir was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in LeMars, past member of Seney United Methodist Church in Struble (error--in Seney) and a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble. He was a member of the Elks Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion and served as president of the Aerie 1381 Eagles Club from 1979-1981.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Audra of LeMars; three sons, Mark and his wife Laura of Sunset, Utah, Michael and his wife Paula of Milford, and David and his fiance' Jodi Konz of LeMars; two daughters and their husband, Lynn and Dennis Bush of Sabina, Ohio and Leigh and Doyle Turner of Moville; 11 grandchildren, Terra and Grace Moir, Emily Farrar, Matthew Bush, Coty and Erin Moir, Chase, Grant, Delaney and Pierce Turner and Drew Moir; a sister, Janice Albert and her husband Earl of LeMars; a sister-in-law, Anna Mae Sitzman of So. Sioux City, Neb.; a brother-in-law, Gene Kipp and his wife Kathleen of LeMars; and a sister-in-law, Kay Black and her husband Mike of Topack, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his mother and father-in-law, G. A. and Lena Kipp.
