2 – YEAR-Old Boy Killed In Farm Mishap

Elevator Tips Over on Little Larry Hauschild

Larry John Hauschilde, 2-year-old son of the Leonard Hauschilds who farm in Grantownship near Le Mars, was killed late Wednesday afternoon in a tragic farm accident.

A grain elevator, which had been pulled away from the barn, toppled over on the youngster about 5:30 p.m. He was dead upon arrival at Sacred Heart hospital.

Apparently Larry’s sisters had been climbing on the elevator. The tot was playing right in the path of the machine when it topped over.

Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m., Saturday at St. John’s American Lutheran church in Le Mars. Rev. Harold Tegtmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the Grant township Lutheran cemetery under the direction of Mauer’s funeral home.

Larry John was born Sept. 10, 1954, at Le Mars.

Surviving are his parents,; Mr. and Mr. Leonard F. H. Hauschild; Linda and Diane at home; his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. John Hauschild of Le Mars; a maternal grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Sandrock of Sioux City, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Rieka Hauschild of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Boy Killed By Fall From Elevator

Larry John Hauschild, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hauschild of Le Mars, died at the Sacred Heart hospital on July 31 of injuries suffered in a farm accident on that day.

Larry was in the farmyard with his father when he crawled into a grain elevator and in some way tipped the elevator so that it fell on him, crushing him. He was rushed to the hospital where he died a short time later. The farm is located in section 26, Grant township.

Larry was born September 10, 1954, in Le Mars. He was 2 years, 9 months and 21 days of age. His mother is the former Betty Sandrock.

Funeral services will be at St. John’s American Lutheran church in Le Mars on Saturday, Aug 3, 1957, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Harold Tegtmeir officiating. Burial will be in the Grant township cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home.

Survivors include his parents and two sisters, Linda and Diane at home. He was preceded in death by two brothers. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Hauschild of Le Mars and Mrs. Elizabeth Sandrock of Sioux City. His great-grandmother, Mrs. Rickel Hauschild lives in Le Mars.
