Arlene L. Olson, 85, of 1120 Hearthstone Place, Plover, Wis., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2011, following a brief illness and while under the care of her family.
Arlene was born Sept. 24, 1925, to the late John D. and Elizabeth (Zimmerman) Hauschild in Grant Township, rural Le Mars. She was baptized and confirmed in Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars. She graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1942. Arlene attended Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing (St. Luke's College) to become a registered nurse and graduated in 1947.
She married Hubert P. Olson Dec. 12, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1996.
In the late 1950s, Arlene and Hubert established a family farm and raised their children in Neillsville, Wis. The farm was sold in 1984 and they moved to Stoughton, Wis. They later settled in Cottage Grove, Wis. After Hubert's death, Arlene settled in Plover, Wis.
Arlene will be remembered as the pillar of her family. Her love for family and her faith were extremely important. She was known to have an independent and strong willed nature. Her ability to organize was next to none.
In her spare time she enjoyed travel, needle point, crocheting, college basketball, and Iowa Hawkeye sports.
Survivors include her children. Sharon (Greg) Klug of Plover, Wis., David (Janice) Olson of South Lyon, Mich., Dennis Olson of Stoughton, Wis., Debra (Greg) Horsman of West Concord, Minn., and Steven (Gail) Olson of Mableton, Ga.; grandchildren, Gregory (Brandy) Klug, Michelle (Clifton) Schulist, Chad (Robyn) Olson, John (Andrea) Olson, Krista Olson, Nicole Olson, Lauren Olson, Leah Olson, Julia Olson, Phillip Olson, David Horsman, Susan Horsman Mickow, Matthew and Nicholas Olson; great-grandchildren, Liberty, Charles, Sydnee, Calee, Colton, Marlena, Benjamin, Lila, Amelia, Talia, Makayla, Mason, Taylar, Brandon and Parker; sister-in-laws; many nieces and nephews; and special god-child, Linda Beitelspacher of Le Mars.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Leonard Hauschild; and sister, Lucille.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Stevens Point, Wis., with the Rev. Steven Olson officiating. A time of visitation will also take place Friday at the church from 11 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place in Highland Memory Gardens, Des Moines.
