Frank Port Lived Here Half CenturyFrank Port of Brunsville died Monday, August 23, at his home in Brunsville after five years of poor health.
Frank Port was born February 28, 1867, in Davenport, Iowa and was 76 years old at the time of his death. He came to Plymouth county in 1885 at the age of 18 and settled in the western part of the county and with the exception of 10 years spent in Howard, South Dakota, has lived there the remainder of his life. He was married to Mary Belle McInnis July 3, 1895, in Plymouth County.
Mr. Port was a well known farmer and for many years he had a threshing crew which worked in the western part of the county. At the time of his death he was retired and lived in Brunsville, but he is always remembered as one of the early settlers in the county.
Surviving beside his wife are two sons, Lloyd of Struble and Ross who is at home, three daughters, Mrs. Frances Herzberg, LeMars, Mrs. Ruth Janz [Jans], San Fran¬cisco, and Mrs. Ida Mae Kaine, Richmond, California, eight grandchildren, two brothers Harry of Akron and Charlie of Hartford, South Dakota, three sisters, Mrs. Ida Winterstine of Hartford, South Dakota, Mrs. William Folan of Plankington, South Dakota and Mrs Jans Tucker of Sioux City.
The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Plymouth Presbyterian church. A short service will be held at the home at 1:30. Rev. T. C. Seibert will officiate.Copyright © 1943, Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel (Le Mars, Plymouth County, Iowa) of 27 August 1943.
