March 27, 1928Silas Bruce Barber, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Z. P. Barber, was born at Coats, Kansas, May 3, 1892, and passed away at the home of his parents at 111 South Acacia street, Compton, Calif., on February 20, 1928, after a year’s illness, at the age of 35 years, 9 months, and 17 days. He leaves to mourn his death his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Z. P. Barber, and two brothers and five sisters, Arthur, of Dallas, Ore.; Thomas, of Hartford, S.D.; Mrs. Alla Smith of Heron Lake, Minn.; Mrs. Edith King, of Lucas, S.D.; Mrs. Laura Bartel, of Bowman, N.D.; Mrs. Clara Parks, of Correctionville, Iowa; Mrs. Vina Harms, Compton, Calif. A brother, Roy, preceded him in death February 12, 1925. He attended the Akron public school during his boyhood days and moved with his parents to California when fifteen years of age. He took manual training in school there and became an expert carpenter, which trade he followed until compelled to give up by poor health.
