Charles Mulfinger
Charles D. Mulfinger, 93, 3515 Sixth Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1992, at Countryside Retirement Home after a short illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christy Morningside Funeral Home with Dr. Robert E. Peters, of Community Presbyterian Church of Lawton, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery at Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today, with the family present 7-9 p.m. at funeral home.
Mr. Mulfinger was born June 18, 1899, in Rodney, Iowa. He farmed in the Climbing Hill area and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Iris M. Honeyman in 1944 at Moline, Ill. She died Jan. 6, 1990, in Sioux City. He was a machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal and then moved back to Westfield, Iowa, and continued to work at Concrete Pipe. In 1966, he retired to Sioux City where he worked with his brother, Fred, at Tri-State Welding Co. for many years. He remained active until about four years ago. He and his brothers were well known around the area for building and racing midget race cars.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Jim and Leola Willits of Sioux City and Steve and KeeAnn Mulfinger of Hornick, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Barbara and David Connolly of Albuquerque, N.M., Audrey and Derald Wright of Lincoln, Nev., David and Anthea Mays of Sioux City, Terry and Bob Buckley of Omaha, Christine Willits of Phoenix, Ariz., Jim Willits of Bronson, and Taylor, David, Evan and Dylan Mulifinger of Hornick, Iowa; five great-grandchildren: Jonathan and Stephanie aWright, Anthony and Catherine Connolly and Hilary Mays; and a brother, John Mulfinger of Washington State.
He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Charles; a daughter, Helen, Willis Mays; two sisters, Minnie and Ida; and two brothers, Rudolph and Fred.
