Note: His mother's maiden name is Moore and his step-father's last name is Brown.

Homer J. Norton, a resident of Washington township and Merrill for many years, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 1937, at the home of his son, Egbert Norton, following several months illness.

Homer J. Norton was born in Brownsville, Minn., December 7, 1856. He grew to manhood where he was born and came to Sioux City in 1874 and in December, 1879, he was united in marriage with Miss Louise F. Dick. Shortly after their marriage they moved to a farm in Washington township where they lived until February. Mrs. Norton passed away in May. Since her death Mr. Norton has been in failing health.

Two sons were born to them, Clarence T., of Merrill, and Egbert D., of Washington township. Besides his sons he is mourned by seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Grustoff, of Sioux City, and Mrs. Kate McKettrick, of Le Mars. Three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. Norton was respected by all who knew him for his honesty in dealing with his fellow man.

Funeral services were held Friday from the Methodist church, Rev. Cox of Walthill, Neb., officiated at the services. He was laid to rest in the Merrill cemetery beside his wife.
