FREMONT, Neb.—Donald C. Hillrichs, 71, of Fremont, Neb. Died Friday evening, June 8, 2001, at Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont.

Donald C. Hillrichs was born May 22, 1930, at Akron, the son of Henry and Kathryn (Westergard) Hillrichs. He grew up on the family farm near Akron and graduated from Le Mars High School. He then farmed on the farm where he was born. On Sept. 16, 1951, he married Marilyn Smith in Le Mars.

During the Korean War years of 1952 and 1953, he served in the United States Army. Donald was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.

Following his military duty, he returned to the farm near Akron. In 1966, the family moved to Fremont, Nev., where he began working for the Department of Utilities. At the time of his death, he was employed there as superintendent of the waste water treatment plant.

Donald was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fremont. He also had memberships in several organizations related to his work, including the Nebraska Environmental Association.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; a son, Kirk and his wife, Donna Hillrichs, of Fremont, Neb.; a daughter Roxanne and her husband, Jerry Woodman, of Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren, Angela Hillrichs, Patrick Woodman and Shawn Woodman; one sister and her husband, Lois and Erivin Stevens of Centerville, S.D.; three sisters-in-laws, Shirley Hillrichs of Akron, Cornelia Hillrichs of Le Mars and Carol Langford of Richland, Wash.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Lowell, and an infant twin sister, Darlene.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Fremont with the Rev. Roger Robertson and the Rev. Leland Foreman officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery, Fremont, with military graveside honors provided by the Fremont Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854.

Visitation is today (Monday) from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. to greet friends. Visitation continues Tuesday morning from 9 to 11 a.m at the funeral home, and then at the church for an hour before service time in the afternoon.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Fremont.
