Life Legacy
Lois Katherine Stevens was born July 31, 1926 on the family farm east of Akron, IA, to parents Henry and Katherine (Westergard) Hillrichs. She died August 18, 2014 at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg, SD at the age of 88 years and 17 days.
Lois was baptized on August 22, 1926 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 6, 1941. She received her education in a country school near Akron. Lois was united in marriage to Ervin Stevens on November 28, 1948. They farmed south of Centerville until 1959 when they moved north of Centerville where they raised their son David.
Lois was a member of Immanuel Free Lutheran Church and Centerville American Legion Auxiliary. Lois and Ervin spent many winters in Texas. They loved having coffee with their friends at the Centerville bakery and felt their day didn’t start right if they missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ervin, brothers Robert, Lowell and Donnie, a sister Darlene in infancy, sister-in-law Cornelia Hillrichs, and nephews Mark Hillrichs and Randy Hillrichs.
Survivors include her son David Stevens and wife Cheryl, Centerville, SD; two grandchildren, Mike Stevens and wife Laura, Viborg, SD and Deb Walburg and husband Tim, Madison, SD; four great grandchildren, Evan and Kirsten Stevens and Katlyn and Alex Walburg; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Hillrichs and Marilyn Hillrichs; and many other relatives and friends.
Please join the Stevens family for a lunch at the Centerville American Legion Hall following the committal service at Riverview Cemetery.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Immanuel Free Lutheran Church, rural Centerville. Visitation will be Friday from 4PM to 8PM with family present from 5PM to 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville.
