Martin Henrich Widely Known Stockman Dies

Death Follows an Operation and An Illinois Lasting A Year

Death claimed Martin Henrich, a prominent farmer, and stockman residing in America township, at the Sacred Heart hospital in this city Wednesday night following an operation for appendicitis at the- age of 66 years. Mr. Henrich had been in failing health for the past year and ten days prior to his death was taken seriously ill.

Mr. Henrich was born at Niederhochstadt, Germany, July 22, 1867, where he received his early schooling and training. At the age of fourteen, he came to America with others of his family. They settled in Lee j county, Illinois, with his brothers he came to Iowa in 1881 and located near Odebolt on a farm.

While living in Sac county he was united in marriage with Miss Katie Konradi January 2, 1891. Following their marriage, they farmed near Akron for eight years and then moved back to Sac county. From Sac county, wishing to give their children better educational facilities, they came to Le Mars and purchased a farm two miles north of town which is their home since.

His death is mourned by his wife, seven sons and five daughters, who are Fred Henrich, of Dell Rapids, S. D., John, Martin, Leo, and Alvin, of Akron; Mrs. John Deiterman, of Le Mars; Mrs. Otto Kallsen, of Craig; Mrs. Ernest Topf, of Sergeant Bluff; PauI. Edwin, Mary, and Dorothy living at home, and eighteen grandchildren, He also leaves a brother and a sister living at the old home In Germany. A brother, Balthasar Henrich, of this place, died six months ago.

Was Typical Farmer

Mr. Henrich was a successful farmer, pursuing methods of thrift and industry, coupled with good business judgment. He was prominent in the community and political circles and was a leader in ideas which he judged would benefit his fellow workers. He held various township offices and positions of trust during his life. He was a kind husband and father, devoted to the interests of his children and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends and acquaintance. Mr. Henrich was recently accorded a write-up in "Fortune, " a. well-known magazine in which he is described as a "Typical Iowa Farmer. " The article is lengthy and contains photographs of Mr. Henrich and his family, the residence and farm buildings.

The funeral will be held Saturday, March 3, at St. Joseph church at 9:30 am with Mgr. J. D. Fisch officiating and interment made in St. Joseph Cemetery.
