Freda Chilton
Freda Chilton, 88, of Sioux City died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at a Sioux City nursing home following a brief illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel with the Rev. Ed. Pappadackis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 2 to 8:30 p.m. with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Chilton was born, Dec. 4, 1911, in Macksburg, Iowa, the fdaughter of Edward and Laura (Simpson) Welty. She moved to Sioux City as a young child. She married Donald K. Chilton Sr., in 1930 in Larimer, Iowa. He died in 1968 (actually 1967) in Sioux City. They farmed in the Hornick-Climbing Hill areas for many years, and also in the Lawton and Westfield, Iowa, areas. She moved back to Sioux City in 1989.
She had worked at Yonkers for more than 20 years. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Linda Chilton of Sioux City; three sisters, Flossie and her husband, Mac McCoy of Tempe, Ariz., Mable Davis of Moville, and Helen Schields of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers and their wives, Wayne and Phyllis Welty of Seattle, Wash., and Marvin and Dottie Welty of Graham, Wash.; two grandchildren, Kevin Chilton and Shelly Papenhausen; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Donald K. Chilton Jr., and four brothers and sisters.
